Summer of 1945

Ingrid Marie Barrøy's life takes a turn for the better when she becomes a mother to her own girl and virtual mother in charge of a number of youngsters who come to live with her. She is the "Queen of Barrøy".

CURATOR'S REVIEW:
Your painting translates a difficult WW2 narrative into a lyrical, abstract-figurative language. The central, protective figure, formed through veils of mauve, peach, and Arctic blues, conveys tenderness and secrecy, while the dark blossoms and descending drips speak to the weight of stigma and history. The butterfly becomes a quiet emblem of fragile hope and transformation, a smart counterpoint to the heavier passages. Compositionally, the bowed silhouette anchors the canvas as branching stems and patterned fragments create a circular rhythm that feels like memory surfacing. Technically, your translucent layering and sensitive color relationships are strong; the glazing and textural passages give depth without clutter. The result is a moving, poetically restrained work where concept, mood, and execution align to honor resilience and intimacy.

We believe this piece would resonate strongly in our upcoming Paris exhibition, October 17–19, 2025, at the Carrousel du Louvre. ARTBOXY will have its own booth where we will show selected artworks digitally on our large ARTBOXY Screens, giving your work high visibility to an international audience in one of the world’s most iconic art venues.
